How I discovered my life purpose as a health coach and what you can do to uncover your own passion (no matter what it is!)

"Life purpose” is a strong word; how do we even know where to begin?

If I can give you even a tiny bit of inspo or a spark to help you uncover your OWN passion and purpose, then I’ll call this lil coffee chat a success.

It took a long time for me to get to this place so I hope in getting a little vulnerable I'll save YOU time from your own suffering, confusion and ‘stuck’ness!

You ready for the answers?

Right now, I’m sitting on living room floor with my hot cup of coffee. Sit down and join me for a story!

For those who don’t know, I transformed my whole life. Sounds dramatic, but it’s true.

I moved to a new city right after college and that was really hard! It wasn’t hard to make friends BUT it was hard to be true to myself. I found myself compromising who I was for friendships. I was pretty miserable behind closed doors but one of my strengths is poise, and I kept it together so well on the outside that few people knew what I was going through.

I dug myself out of that place, slowly but surely.

Now I’m in a place where I feel genuine happiness every day and I'm glowing from the inside out. I’m a joyful person just being who I am.

Everyone’s journey is going to look different, but If I could break it down into steps of what I did and what worked for me, here’s where I’d invite you to start.

How to Transform the Physical You

I started cooking more at home. I cleaned up my food and diet by learning about different types of foods and ways to cook them in a way that worked with my body instead of against it. I started to consume less alcohol. I started working out consistently and finding workouts I loved. I began to lose weight and started toning up!

Being able to see and gain confidence in myself through a physical transformation was important to give me the boost I needed to discover and uncover my bigger purpose in life. After all, I felt amazing!

It led to a complete mental transformation, too.

The catch was this.

I realized that all the kale in the world wasn’t going to help me reach my full potential, even though I was physically in great shape.

How to Transform Your "Life Food"

Life food is the same way: it’s the stuff that fuels or drains our energy.

What is it for you?

When it came to relationships, I was a serial dater. Whether I knew it or not at the time, having somebody around made me feel… how do I put this… comfortable. After a while, I got to a point where it was no longer serving me to date somebody just to date somebody: It was more draining than fueling.

That was an interesting thing to realize. I stopped dating people and dated myself for a while! I had to ask myself what I really wanted in a partner or relationship, marriage or seriousness aside.

Oddly enough, it wasn’t long before I started dating my now husband! I wouldn’t have been ready for it if I hadn’t dated myself.

It just goes to show that once you take a step back and think about how your relationships can serve and fuel your life, making you feel good instead of drained, that the people who are meant to come into your life come into it.

How Life Food Can Bring You to Your Purpose

The other big piece of life food that was transformational for me was my career.

Growing up, I always valued working hard and tried to do my best. That translated to doing well in college and wanting a career where I could continue working hard. When I was looking for my first job out of school, I wanted that great job. I thought I’d found it in a sales job for a great healthcare company.

What happened though, is that I let my career drain me. I was working close to 24/7 because I thought that was the right thing to do.

After I came into my whole physical transformation, the reality was that my career was absolutely draining me and weighing me down.

It took time. But, I figured out what I’m amazingly good at. I asked people I trusted and looked within.

I’m a great listener, I’m empathetic, I do a great job of supporting and empowering people.

I’m gentle but genuine and I keep it real. I help connect the dots, connect with others, and connect people together.

I don’t say that to brag about my strengths over here but it was eye-opening for me to realize I wasn’t using any of my strengths in my career.

With my physical health transformation, I realized I wanted to give other people the gift of health and a better life. If I look back at my happiest moments, that’s what I’ve always tried to do for as long as I can remember.

Making a career by saving women time and confusion on their own healthy journey has fueled and energized me like I never thought possible.

What You Can Do NOW to Start Uncovering Your Purpose

I’m not saying you can’t do a life transformation without being in a healthy place. In fact, there are many people who start with a career transformation and once that’s in a good place then they actually go through a physical transformation naturally.

But for me, starting with the very basics of diet and exercise was where I needed to start to find my life purpose and transformation. Before you're there, you can ask yourself these questions to help guide you to your bigger purpose.

Ask Yourself These 3 Questions to Find Your Purpose

1. What are you super good at?

What do people tell you do you well? What are your inherent strengths? Write the answer down or at the very least start thinking about it in your head.

2. What difference do you want to make in the world?

It doesn’t have to be big, grand, or worldly. For me, I don’t want any woman to reach the age of 25 without knowing she is complete, whole and perfect exactly where she is and that personal mission shows up in the form of teaching women how to find their version of health through diet and lifestyle.

It doesn’t have to be big but it does have to be something. That will guide you in every action you take.

3. What kind of person do you want to be?

Have you ever met a new person and their first question was, “So, what do you do?” Well, this is not that.

This is about who you’re BEING in the world, not what you're DOING.

For me, that looks like vibrant, healthy, accepting, giving, and caring. That’s the kind of person I want to be in this world. For you, think about how you want to show up. Is it brave? Strong? Gentle? Inspirational? Grounded? Connected?

When people interact with you, how do you want them to feel?

Those are the three questions you can ask yourself to get started on your path to your most fulfilling life purpose.

4. What’s the tiniest action I could take right now?

Warning: It's easy to doubt yourself or get overwhelmed... Instead, ask yourself, “What’s the tiniest action I could take right now?" This will help you get started in a way that's fun and manageable!

Good luck on this journey! This is just the beginning and you got this. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

I’m cheering you on! I hope you’ll let me know how it goes!
